Washington Heads of Office Leadership Council: Building an Organization from the Ground Up

In 2018, a small group of senior executives of color who oversee government affairs for fortune-level companies and trade associations joined together to form the Washington Heads of Office Leadership Council (WHOOLC). In need of an approach for managing the organization, WHOOLC brought Mariko Bennett onboard as the Founding Executive Director and hired Coco B. Productions to establish the mission and vision, build the brand, manage operations and programming, and expand membership. Coco B developed the brand elements, led the content development for all collateral including the website, coordinated monthly programming, and oversaw event production and management for WHOOLC’s annual leadership bootcamp. Our strategic consulting has led to a 60% increase in membership since 2018—with members across sectors managing a combined $867 billion in secured funding—and WHOOLC is now a trusted provider of leadership development and networking opportunities that create, support, and advance diversity in the government affairs industry.

Walgreens RxIMPACT Advocacy Day: Connecting Stakeholders to Members of Congress

For the past few years, Coco B. Productions has supported Walgreens in producing its RxIMPACT Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill, providing a range of strategic consulting and event production services. As part of this work, our team has provided project management support including establishing a work plan and timeline for deliverables, coordinating regular check-ins to monitor progress, and developing and updating daily a tracking spreadsheet for the congressional meetings. We have also delivered event production services including budget and vendor management, coordinating lodging and transportation, securing and designing the event space, and planning receptions and VIP events for Members of Congress, WalgreensCoPAC contributors, and other stakeholders.

Walgreens: Establishing Strategic Alliances to Transform the Future of Pharmacy

Walgreens has hired Coco B. Productions to build relationships and establish strategic alliances that will help the company transform the future of pharmacy and adapt to the changing needs of health consumers. The Coco B. team is currently collaborating with Walgreens’ Government Affairs and Social Corporate Responsibility teams to develop a public affairs plan and engagement agenda, including opportunities for positioning the client on conference and event panels. We are also helping Walgreens build out partnership priorities that align with organizational goals; engage potential national and local partners across sectors to cultivate relationships; and facilitate strategic planning meetings that establish a collective vision and goals for each partnership, identify shared services and joint programming, and strategize implementation and evaluation approaches. Though we are in the early stages of this work, Coco B. has already successfully facilitated strategic alliances with two large national associations.

Rush University College of Nursing: Bridging Personal Aspirations and Professional Goals

Named U.S. News & World Report’s Best Online Graduate Nursing Program, Rush University College of Nursing was in need of a unique employee engagement and professional development experience. In June 2020, Coco B. Productions delivered a virtual vision boarding experience in which employees across the College of Nursing, including members of senior leadership, worked alongside each other to connect their personal vision to their professional goals. Following the event, attendees were offered an opportunity to join our Vision Boarding Accountability Program to receive one-on-one coaching, access to a private platform for group communication, and live check-ins to celebrate milestone achievements. Dr. Rhonda Owens, Director of Administrative Services for the Office of the Dean, called it “one of the best ‘out of the box’ development initiatives [they’d] ever experienced” and would “recommend it to anyone who is looking for an innovative experience that builds collaboration up, down, and across organizations.”

US Chamber of Commerce: Vision Boarding for Women Taking the Lead

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Women Taking the Lead program convenes and connects high-level women leaders in government and business to showcase top talent, create and strengthen a network of allies, and provide opportunities for professional growth and development. In July 2020, Coco B. Productions’ Founder and CEO Mariko Bennett was invited to lead a Women Taking the Lead workshop on identity. The customized presentation began with a discussion on how women are often defined by who they are to other people (e.g., wives, mothers, friends) instead of by who they are as individuals, encouraging participants to tune into who they are outside of their relationships. Following that, Coco B. facilitated a vision boarding exercise that used our proprietary C-Power method—crystallize, customize, cultivate, curate—to help attendees create a clear vision for nurturing their own hopes, ambitions, and desires.

Serve DC: Creating a Shared Vision for Continuous Improvement

As part of their strategic plan in consolidating departments, Serve DC, the DC Mayor’s Office on Volunteerism & Partnerships, was interested in a strategic brainstorming session that would allow for the leadership to cascade 2021 goals and to create goal alignment by communicating a shared vision for meeting the agency’s mission of promoting volunteerism and service across the city with strategic community outreach and engagement. Coco B. crafted a unique virtual vision boarding experience in which participants used vision boarding to solidify and communicate their goals on how the agency could advance its strategic objectives of (a) building partnerships and organizational capacity, (b) leading local and national volunteer service initiatives, and(c) providing and promoting meaningful service opportunities.
